If you suddenly forgot the password to your Gmail, do not worry. This mail service provides a few ways to restore it. It’s always good to have options to choose from, as more options means more chances to restore access to your mails. For this purpose in Gmail you can use:
- Alternative mail address
- Mobile number
- Security question
If you set an alternative email, you can request a link for Gmail password restoration to this email. Just check alternative mail inbox, there will be a message with requested link. This way implies some risks: if your alternative mail is hacked, a violator can hack your Gmail account too. It is not highly probable, but such chance exists.
If you entered a phone number in Gmail account settings, you can get an SMS with verification code. After entering it in ‘Forgot Password’ form, you will be able to reset a password. It is rather secure way of access restoration. Even if someone hacked your mail account, there is almost zero probability that a hacker will have your mobile phone too. You can also use a standard way – answering a security question. The biggest problem in this approach is that people often forget their security answer. Another problem is that people enter too obvious questions and answers, and anybody can answer it. So, you should be careful not to fall into this trap.
